Excess in attire, grooming, hair style, cosmetics, jewelry, and accessories tend to draw attention to the individual and thus distract learning, which is the main purpose of school. Oftentimes, it is not so much what is worn as to when, where, or how it is worn. Any or all of them may be waived at the discretion of the principal for good and sufficient reasons including, but not limited to: school "spirit" days/weeks, special "dress-up/down" occasions, appropriate field trips, approved rehearsal/practice sessions, etc. Students shall dress and groom in a clean, neat, and modest manner so as not to distract or interfere with the operation of the school. When a student is attired in a manner that is likely to cause disruption or interference with the operation of the school, the Principal/Designee shall take appropriate action, which may include suspension These rules are as follows:

Students in middle and high school may possess personal communication devices (such as cell phones, etc.) during the day subject to the following restrictions:
Upon entering a school building or a school bus, the communication device must be deactivated (turned off, not just silenced).
Once in a school building, the communication device must be immediately placed into a locker (or left in a vehicle before entering the building).
Note: A student may not have the communication device on their person (including their backpack, purses, etc.) during the school day – it must be left in the locker at the beginning of the day until the student is departing at the end of their school day (it must never be in the classroom during the school day).
Students in elementary school are prohibited from possessing a personal communication device in school or school buses (during any school day).
Anyone who discovers a student using a personal communication device shall report the violation to the principal or his/her designee.
Student found to be in violation of this policy are subject to the following disciplinary action.
1st offense – one school day in ISS. The communication device will be confiscated and only returned to the parent/guardian. The parent/guardian will be provided a copy of this policy.
2nd offense – two school days in ISS. The communication device will be confiscated and only returned to the parent/guardian. The parent will be notified this is the second offense.
3rd offense – three days in ISS. The communication device will be confiscated and only returned to the parent/guardian. The parent will be notified this is the third offense.
If a student, who has had his/her communication device for a third time during the school year, is discovered to be in violation again, he/she will be required to appear before the Student Disciplinary Hearing Authority for more significant measures.
When a student is tardy, he/she shall be assigned detention by the teacher. All teacher are expected to explain the "tardy rule" in his or her own classroom and assign detention. Detention will be held each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7:00-7:30, as well as Wednesday afternoon from 3:00-3:30 in the ISS room. Mr. Newton, Mr. Ray, and Mrs. Raines will alternate supervising detention. A teacher is not allowed to hold detention. Students will be allowed 3 detention sessions past the day of the tardy to serve detention. If a student fails to serve detention within the allowed time frame, the student will be sent to the office at the beginning of the next class session with an Office Referral and he/she shall be placed in ISS for that period. A student arriving to school late must sign in at the front office and get a note to enter class. If you become ill at school, or need to leave for a dentist appointment, doctor’s appointment, etc., you must sign out in the office Your parent, guardian, or their designee must come to the office to sign you out officially. You will be notified in the classroom when the parent arrives to sign you out. Wait there until you are notified. Do not leave your class to go sit in the office to wait. If you become ill at school and need to leave, ask your teacher to let you contact your parent. The office will notify the teacher when your parent arrive4s to pick you up or has called to allow you to leave. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE FOR LUNCH.
Arrival At School
The doors will not open before 7:00 A.M. for students. No student should arrive at school prior to 7:00 A. M. All students are to be in first period by 7:45 A.M. Breakfast will be served between 7:15 A.M. and 7:40 A.M.
Please Note: Cars are not allowed in the bus loading/unloading lanes in the front of the school between 6:55 A.M. and 7:45 A.M.
Dismissal for all students will be at 2:45 P.M. Bus riders will dismiss to the front and car riders will be dismissed to the back of the building.

The Board authorizes the Director of Schools to close school grounds in the event of hazardous weather or any other emergency that presents a threat to the safety of students, staff members, or school property.
As soon as the decision to close schools is made, the Director of Schools will notify local public media and request that an announcement is made.
Leaving The School Grounds
Once you arrive at school or board a school bus, you must not leave under any circumstances without permission from the office. No students are to leave the school building to go to a car or elsewhere on or off campus. Any student leaving campus without permission is subject to having their parking pass revoked. Students are not allowed to stay after school in the school building without adult supervision.
Students who ride bicycles or drive motor vehicles to school must leave them parked in designated areas until the end of the school day, unless permission is obtained from the Principal. Vehicles parked on school property by students or visitors are subject to search for drugs, drug paraphernalia, or dangerous weapons.

Seniors may apply for the Tennessee Hope Scholarship by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available at the guidance office or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov The priority for FAFSA completion is March 1.
Report Cards are issued at the end of each semester. Progress Reports are issued at approximately 4 1/2 week intervals (see calendar). Progress Reports should be signed and returned to the teachers. All public schools in Cheatham County follow the same grading scale which is as follows:
A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 75-84
D: 70-74
F: 69 and Below
Students must get an appeal form from the front office. Students/Parents must fill out the appeal form and return it to the office with a doctor's note. The appeal will go to the Appeals Committee, and they will decide if it is appealed, not appealed, or needs further clarification.
