Biography:
Kelly Lockhart Dodson is a College Board authorized teacher of Advanced Placement English Language and Composition, which is taught on the junior level at SHS. A West Virginia native, Dodson graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in 1985 and immediately moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to pursue her bachelor's of science degree in mass communication at Middle Tennessee State University. She obtained this goal in 1988. While working as a full-time instructor of journalism from 1992 to 1995 at MTSU, Dodson earned her master's degree at night in mass communication, and later obtained her post baccalaureate certification in secondary English from Austin Peay State University. A former editor, writer, and Newspaper in Education coordinator, Dodson has won several national, regional, and state awards in writing and promotions. She was also the 2006-2007 Cheatham County Teacher of the Year for Sycamore High School. In her spare time, Dodson loves to grade essays and to try to figure out the yearly prompt for the TCAP Writing Assessment, teach college, and play with her children and her crazy Old English Sheepdog. Dodson is grateful she is able to use her skills as a hospital and community service volunteer as the creator and sponsor of Helping Eagles. For more information about Helping Eagles, please link to the group's site from the "Activities" button on the homepage.
